John Dixon
John Dixon, Director of West Sussex Social & Caring Services, has overall responsibility for the operation of the department in liaison with the Chief Executive, the Cabinet Member for Social & Caring Services, and partnership agencies.
John joined the Department in 1997 from Surrey where he had worked since 1977. He qualified as a Probation Officer and worked as a main grade officer for seven years before going on to head up Surrey's Youth Offending Team. He was then Head of Commissioning at Surrey Social Services before coming to West Sussex.
John is currently Co-Chair of the Association of Directors of Social Services Disabilities Committee, which includes the areas of Mental Health, Learning Disabilities and Substance Misuse. He is the Association of Directors lead on drug and alcohol services.
John's background is in substance misuse services - his first social work job was with Cranstoun Projects as a residential worker.
